Privacy Policy

Last updated: [Month DD, YYYY — insert before launch]

This Privacy Policy explains what information 4Luv collects, why we collect it, what we do with it, and the controls you have over it. We built 4Luv around the idea that a dating app should earn a small amount of trust, not swallow all of it — so we've written this policy to be read. If you only remember three things: we never sell your data, we never see your exact location, and you can delete everything from inside the app.

4Luv is operated by 4Luv B.V. (the exact legal entity will be named at launch), which acts as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Data protection questions can be sent to [email protected] or the postal address listed under 'Contact' at the end of this document.

This policy covers 4luvapp.com, the 4Luv mobile app, and messages you exchange with our support team. It does not cover other services that link to us, which have their own policies.

We try to collect the minimum needed to make matches we can explain. Concretely, that means:

  • Account information: your email address or phone number, display name, birthdate (to verify you are 18 or older), and password or passkey.
  • Profile content: the photos you upload, the prompts and answers you write, your identity and pronoun options if you choose to add them, and your preferences for what you're looking for.
  • Compatibility inputs: your responses about interests, relationship goals, and communication style, plus the match feedback you give (likes, passes, 'the score was wrong here').
  • Approximate location only: we compute a rounded location area of roughly 5 kilometres. We do not collect, use, or store GPS-level coordinates for your exact position.
  • Device and technical information: device model, operating system, app version, crash logs, and coarse diagnostic data used to keep the app working.
  • Messages and reports: the content of messages you send through the app is processed for the purpose of automated and human safety moderation. Reports, blocks, and their supporting screenshots are retained as described below.
  • Support correspondence: whatever you choose to tell us when you email or write in.

We use the above to:

  • Create and secure your account and verify you meet the minimum age requirement.
  • Compute the 4Luv Compatibility Score, rank your daily matches, and let you inspect and correct the inputs.
  • Deliver chats, notifications, and the rest of the app's functionality you ask for.
  • Moderate content: detect scams, harassment, nudity policy violations, and underage signups — first with automated systems, always followed by human review before enforcement.
  • Respond to support and safety reports, and meet our obligations to users who report abuse.
  • Keep the service reliable: crash diagnostics, security logs, and capacity planning.
  • Make aggregate, non-identifying product decisions — for example, how many people complete onboarding.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our processing rests on: performing our contract with you (running the account and the matching service you signed up for); our legitimate interests (security, fraud and abuse prevention, service reliability, product improvement in aggregate); consent, which you can withdraw at any time (optional features such as analytics participation or marketing emails); and legal obligations (for example, responding to valid law-enforcement requests or retaining reports where required).

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertising networks. We share only with the categories of service providers we need to operate 4Luv, each under a written contract that restricts them to doing exactly the job we hired them for:

  • Content moderation providers: vendors that help us operate automated detection and human review of reported or flagged content.
  • Push notification providers: infrastructure that delivers match and message notifications to your device.
  • Cloud hosting and storage: providers that run the servers, databases, and photo storage behind the app.
  • Analytics and crash reporting: providers that process limited, non-identifying technical data to help us find bugs and measure reliability.
  • App stores: Apple's App Store and Google Play receive standard account and purchase information as required for distribution and any future billing.
  • Legal and safety disclosures: we may disclose information where we have a good-faith belief that it is required by law, to protect someone's life or physical safety, to investigate fraud or abuse, or in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger — with user notice wherever legally permitted.

Location exists on 4Luv for exactly one purpose: helping two people realistically meet. To do that we only need to know whether you broadly live near each other, so the app rounds your position to an area of roughly 5 kilometres and never keeps a history of where you have been. You can turn location off entirely and match manually by choosing your area, which costs you nothing except some convenience. This design choice is deliberate — we would rather lose a little matching precision than hold a record of where our users sleep.

  • Account, profile, and preference data: kept while your account is active.
  • Photos and messages: removed within 30 days of account deletion or your deletion request, except where noted below.
  • Reports of abuse and supporting evidence: kept for up to 3 years (or longer if legally required) so that banned users cannot evade enforcement with new accounts and so we can respond to legal processes about serious incidents.
  • Crash and diagnostic data: aggregated and de-identified on a rolling 90-day window.
  • Backups: copies in backup systems age out and are overwritten on a rolling schedule of up to 90 days after deletion.

You control your data, in practice and on paper. Inside the app you can export a copy of your data, correct profile information, change or hide your location area, block or unblock users, and delete your account and all associated content. Where applicable law grants rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, or withdrawal of consent, you can exercise them through app settings or by contacting us at [email protected]. We verify requests with account-based confirmation and respond within the timeframes set by law (one month under the GDPR). If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority.

We encrypt data in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest, restrict employee access to the minimum needed per role, require strong authentication for internal systems, log and monitor access, and run periodic penetration tests. No system is perfectly secure — we will tell you plainly if something happens: we maintain an incident-response process that includes notifying affected users and authorities where required.

We process data primarily in the European Union and the United States. Where personal data leaves the EEA or UK, we rely on the European Commission's adequacy regulations where applicable, or on Standard Contractual Clauses with our providers plus supplementary technical and contractual safeguards.

4Luv is for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We verify age at signup, and if we learn an account belongs to someone under 18 we delete it and its associated data promptly.

If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app and update the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page. Continued use of 4Luv after a change takes effect means the new policy applies; significant changes will require fresh consent where the law does.
